Core Responsibilities
- Prepare lubricant samples using glassware, weighing balances, base oils, and additive containers within a controlled laboratory space.
- Conduct viscosity and density checks using viscometers, hydrometers, and temperature baths as recorded in test sheets.
- Operate flash point and pour point apparatus to observe thermal behavior of formulated oil samples.
- Measure elemental content using laboratory testing instruments and document values in approved laboratory registers.
- Maintain calibration logs, sample labels, and storage racks to ensure traceable handling of chemical materials.
Skills and Technical Exposure
- ASTM laboratory test methods related to lubricants and automotive oils.
- Viscometer equipment including kinematic and rotational systems.
- Flash point and pour point testing apparatus.
- Laboratory documentation formats and controlled test records.
- Microsoft Excel spreadsheets for laboratory data entry.
Experience Context
- Work is performed inside a chemical laboratory handling multiple lubricant samples each day.
- Daily tasks involve small batch testing, repeat measurements, and comparison against specification limits.
