Core Responsibilities
- Log geological strata at dam and tunnel sites using borehole logs and core sample records.
- Inspect exposed rock faces and excavation surfaces with geological hammers and hand lenses.
- Prepare daily geological mapping sheets based on site observations and measured sections.
- Document discontinuities joints and fault zones using standardized geological mapping formats.
- Maintain sample registers and label rock cores stored in site core yards.
- Review site geological drawings and update alignment profiles based on observed conditions.
Skills and Technical Exposure
- Geological logging sheets core boxes and stratigraphic columns.
- Rock mass classification systems and tunnel mapping formats.
- Hand lenses geological hammers and measuring tapes.
- Computer aided drafting software used for geological sections.
- Site investigation reports and borehole completion records.
Experience Context
- Work is carried out at active dam and tunnel construction sites with continuous excavation fronts.
- Projects involve long tunnel drives deep cuttings and large concrete gravity structures.
- Absence of this role leads to unverified ground conditions and increased construction risk.
